SYO Concerto Competition Masterclass and Finals this weekend - ALL WELCOME

ATT: All Members of Sydney Youth Orchestras

I invite you, your friends and family to come along to the following two events for the SYO Concerto Competition. As all of you will be learning to play a concerto at some time in your career, these two events should be of great interest to you all + it would be terrific to have you in the audience to support the six musicians who have successfully auditioned and made it to the finals.

MASTERCLASS – Led by Tom Woods

Choral Assembly Hall, Conservatorium High School, Conservatorium of Music. Please enter through the Conservatorium High School entrance via the Government House gates to the left of the Conservatorium building.

Many of you may know Tom Woods (Artistic Director of SYO six years ago), a highly respected conductor and music educator who currently holds the position of Manager, Artistic Planning of The Queensland Orchestra and is Principal Conductor of the Christchurch Symphony, New Zealand.

Each of the finalists will perform a movement of their concerto for Tom who will give informative and interesting feedback – from the viewpoint of a conductor and also as a performer. To read more info on Tom click here

Australian International Conservatorium of Music, 114 Victoria Road, Rozelle

The six finalists will perform their concerto for a panel to choose the winner of the 2009 SYO Concerto Competition. The winner will then go on to perform their concerto with the full Sydney Youth Orchestra at SYO FLAGSHIP CONCERT 3: Power + Passion conducted by Richard Gill in October.
